Desk Report:
Bangladesh T20 team captain Liton Das has finally broken his silence about the failure in the Asia Cup. He apologized to the fans for not being able to reach the final. At the same time, this wicketkeeper-batter also gave hope.
Bangladesh entered the Super Four by defeating Afghanistan and Hong Kong in the group stage. They also had a great start to the last four. Phil Simmons’ team defeated Sri Lanka in the first match. After losing to India, Bangladesh’s hopes of reaching the final remained alive. Therefore, Bangladesh had to beat Pakistan in the last match.
In that unwritten semi-final against Pakistan in Dubai, the bowlers did their job very well. Bangladesh restricted Pakistan to 135 runs with the controlled bowling of Taskin Ahmed, Mostafizur Rahman, and Rishad Hossain. But the batters disappointed when they came out to reply. Towhid Hridoy, Parvez Hossain Emon, Sheikh Mehedi Hasan, Nurul Hasan Sohan, and Zaker Ali—all showed signs of failure. So Bangladesh stopped at 124 runs. Pakistan became the second team to qualify for the finals with an 11-run win.
Bangladesh fans are understandably upset that they failed to make it to the finals of the Asia Cup despite having a chance. Liton himself has suffered too. He is still upset, especially about being out of the team for the last two matches due to injury.
In a message on his verified Facebook page, Liton wrote, ‘We gave our best in the 2025 Asia Cup. Our ultimate goal was to reach the final and win. But unfortunately we could not do that. As a team, I sincerely apologize to all the enthusiastic supporters of Bangladesh.’
Liton will not easily forget the fact of not playing in two important matches, ‘Personally speaking, missing the last two matches due to injury was heartbreaking for me. For the same reason, I will not be able to participate in the upcoming Afghanistan series. I tried my best to recover, but I could not. This will hurt me for a long time.’
Liton did not forget to express his gratitude to everyone for their support, ‘Thank you very much to each and every one of you for your overwhelming support throughout the tournament. As athletes, we are truly lucky to have the best supporters in the world. Hopefully, we will be able to repay you very soon.’
